The joint port company between Umeå and Vaasa, Kvarken Ports, is taking the next step in development
After 10 years of joint ownership between the City of Vasa and Umeå Hamn AB, they now choose to move forward with Kvarken Ports and create separate legal entities.
- It is a natural step that facilitates the ongoing expansions in the port of Vasa and port of Umeå, this applies both to governance and to financial matters. The collaboration will continue through the joint brand Kvarken Ports, says Gunnar Dahlberg, chairman of the board of Kvarken Ports.

Port of Umeå as a green transport node-model in a pilot study to strengthen the Green Shipping Corridor between Umeå and Vaasa
A joint project will make the Port of Umeå a system demonstrator and forerunner with the aim of strengthening and extending the Green Shipping Corridors* initiated within the EU. - The work on shaping a Green Shipping Corridor between Umeå and Vaasa is currently underway. Through this project, we want to extend the corridor and accelerate the transition to fossil-free transport and operations. We hope to be able to show Umeå port as a good example of how to reduce emissions, push for environmentally friendly investments and support the Green Shipping Corridors, says Christer Nederstedt, Sales and Marketing Manager Kvarken Ports.
